Early Life and Calling

Born in 1948 on Krishna Janmashtami in Bangalore, Guruji displayed exceptional curiosity and dedication as a student. An Aeronautical Engineer and MBA graduate from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, his journey into spirituality began in his early 30s. Inspired by his roommate’s insight into the stress-relieving power of meditation, Guruji trained in Transcendental Meditation and served under Maharshi Mahesh Yogi in Switzerland. This marked the turning point in his life.

His Guru, Sri Bhagwan Visveswaraya

He found the need to deepen his knowledge of meditation, so he began to sit in meditation, locked in his room for days without food and water. When he would come out every 10-15 days, he would become very powerful. This was around 1977-79.

His mother, Smt. Ramadevi Amma, recalls that when he was in meditation, when he was in silence, he would get answers to all his questions.  Many times he would stay with his guru, Bhagwan Visvesvaraya, until about 4 am in the morning. Bhagwan would dedicate his sleeping time to Guruji. He would stay with Bhagwan and seek his guidance and clear his doubts.

Devising the Pranayama Routine

He journeyed to North India, where he met many yoga teachers and yogis. He learned many different pranayamas. After he learned pranayama from Sri. Purnanandaji, he found it to be the most beneficial of all the pranayamas he had learned till then.

After learning several types of pranayama, he devised a pranayama routine that everyone could easily do.

His Mother and First Student,

Smt. Ramadevi Amma

At the point in time when Ramadevi Amma was hardly able to walk and she has swollen legs, she started doing pranayama while lying down. Although doctors were not able to identify the disease, eventually she started to recover. After she started pranayama, she started to understand what was happening in her body and she stopped all the treatments.

She said that all those who practice pranayama and meditation daily can understand what is happening in their bodies. They can correct their differences. This is Guruji's gift to all of us.

Creation of SSY and Establishment of RSVK

He introduced the wisdom of SSY in a contemporary format, trained teachers, established ashrams for silence retreats, founded schools for children, launched Annaprasada centers, and initiated programs to transform lives across all strata of society. Acknowledged as a Brahmarshi by Vedic scholars, Guruji's work has inspired countless individuals, enabling them to lead fulfilling and spiritually enriched lives. Through his teachings and initiatives, Guruji continues to guide humanity toward inner joy, collective prosperity, and harmony. Guruji Sri Rishi Prabhakar devoted his life to offering this transformative training, guiding people in the science and art of self-discovery.

What is RSVK?

Rishi Samskruti Vidya Kendra (RSVK), a public charitable trust, was established in Bangalore on 18th February 1982 by Guruji Rishi Prabhakar with a profound vision: to stand for bringing out greatness in everyone. Guided by this purpose, RSVK has grown into a voluntary social organization with numerous centres across India and abroad.

The trust is registered under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act since 30th December 1982 and enjoys 80G registration.

Rooted in the wisdom of non-doing, RSVK is dedicated to empowering individuals to discover ever-deepening levels of the self, fostering wholeness, joy and fulfilment. The hallmark of RSVK lies in its effortless functioning, driven by the inner joy and silence of its dedicated members. At RSVK, we embrace the shared responsibility of uplifting our lives and the lives of those around us. Here, there are no disciples, only masters who serve and contribute towards collective growth.

Among its significant contributions is the development and dissemination of Siddha Samadhi Yoga (SSY), a transformative program conducted by a network of dedicated teachers, who serve as the pillars of the organization.

RSVK’s mission extends beyond individual transformation, aiming to create a vibrant community rooted in higher consciousness, joy, and service. Through its initiatives, the organization plays a significant role in fostering self-transformation and nation-building, contributing to the vision of an enlightened, harmonious society.

Fundamental Premise of RSVK

  1. We start by knowing that everyone is doing their best.

  2. If we have a suggestion to make, we make it to the person and leave it to him – to do his best.

  3. We have to enroll people, not force people.

  4. Our Dharma is to see that everyone is okay. We do not try to correct the situation, but do into our own silence, where everything is okay. Let the action flow from the fullness within to express the joy rather than seeking to correct the situation. To propagate this culture of Dharma is our purpose.

Our Pledge

We have a great task ahead of us – the commitments we have to our own lives and to the lives of everyone around us. This can only be accomplished by focusing on ourselves, not by focusing on the task – to allow ourselves to be truly happy and useable. People can only use useable material. We don’t ask them to use us or our teaching. We shall allow ourselves to be used – by truly being ourselves and enjoying each moment as if it was the last.

We pledge to give nothing but our best. This includes our love, our possessions, our word, our honour, our citizenship and ourselves. We do not do this to elevate ourselves above others or to belittle ourselves. We do this recognising that it is the opportunity to discover the best in us.

My only true personal gain is discovering the best in me. To discover my ability to be with everyone and everything around me. This is my best, my path, my goal.

I represent life. No one is higher or lower than me. No one is more valuable than another. I will not make anyone my slave, nor will I submit as a slave to anyone. In true partnership I shall discover myself in you, in everyone. This is my pledge. This is my pledge.

- Guruji Sri Rishi Prabhakar, on 12 May 1983.
